Collagen induction therapy with the Dermapen
Roll back the years with Dermapen collagen induction therapy...
If you suffer from uneven, dull or lifeless skin, wrinkles, open pores, acne, acne scarring or pigmentation... your solution is collagen induction therapy, using the LED micro needle Dermapen (Dermal Micro Needling).
How does Dermal Micro Needling with the Dermapen work?
Unlike other ablative skin treatments (e. g. laser peels) that destroy the epidermis, our LED micro needle Dermapen does not destroy the epidermal barrier. In fact, the epidermis stays intact allowing it to heal quickly after a treatment. This gives collagen induction therapy (CIT) a huge advantage over other skin treatments, as it means less down time and risk to the patient.
The LED micro needle Dermapen works by creating ‘micro wounds’ in the dermis of the skin that over time encourage the body to stimulate the natural production of collagen. Over time a thicker layer of tissue will develop which ‘fills in’ the cavities left by atrophic scars and wrinkles.
Which skin issues can collagen induction therapy help with?
Collagen induction therapy is an amazing treatment because it can help with so many different skin problems:
- Skin rejuvenation for dull, uneven or tired looking skin to bring back your glow.
- Pigment reduction.
- Acne and excess oil: the treatment destroys bacteria to minimise acne and inflammation.
- Acne scarring.
- Neutralisation and balance, by stimulating lymphatic drainage.
- Restoring oxygen flow to dull skin.
- Fine lines and sagging skin.
How come one treatment type can deal with so many different skin problems?
The LED micro needle Dermapen has surgical-grade stainless steel single-use micro needles. We adjust these micro needles manually in depth from 0.5mm to 2mm in length. This is because different needle lengths work on different skin issues. For example, if you have both acne and acne scarring, the needle would be between 1.5 to 2mm.
Or for skin rejuvenation treatments, the needle would be adjusted to a much shorter length. So the entire treatment is tailor-made to your individual needs.
Introducing: LED photon dynamic therapy
Another reason why our needling treatments are so effective for different skin problems is because of the addition of LED therapy to each treatment.
The tissues in our body absorb light and this creates a series of chemical reactions: photo decomposition, photo oxidation, photo polymerisation and photo sensitisation. Different wavelengths of light create different chemical reactions, which lead to different treatment solutions.
For example, white light treats fine lines and sagging skin; purple light deals with acne and acne scarring; and red light assists skin rejuvenation; and so on.
The combination of the dermal micro needling with adjustable needle lengths, and the tailor-made LED treatments, makes for an incredibly effective skin treatment.

You can see how effective the combination of dermal micro needling and LED therapy is on different skin problems:
How is the collagen induction therapy performed - and does it hurt?
The skin is cleaned and then numbed with a numbing cream, so the treatment should not hurt at all. The skin is then needled with the LED micro needle Dermapen, so that each skin part is needled 15 to 20 times.
Can collagen induction therapy be performed on any skin colour?
Yes, since the LED micro needle Dermapen does not use thermal heat, it is safe to use on all skin types and all skin colours. There is no risk of post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation.
How often can the collagen induction therapy procedure be repeated?
As often as required. For collagen induction therapy we recommend you start with 3 treatments, but at 6 week intervals.
What is the down-time after a dermal micro needling treatment?
The inflammatory reaction of the skin is extremely short and fades significantly within hours from redness to pinkish that may last for 12 to 24 hours on average.
In order to reduce visible redness, we recommend healing minerals, peptides or hyaluronic acid after the procedure, and to protect the skin with zinc-based sunscreen. We also recommend the use of mineral make up to help with the healing.
What should I avoid on my skin?
To ensure the right healing environment, for 2 to 3 days DO NOT use AHAs (glycolic acid), Retinol, acidic or "active" ingredients. If you're unsure about your skincare products, please ask the team at *rubywaxx* for advice.
How much is a Dermapen skin needling treatment at Rubywaxx?
One skin needling treatment with the LED micro needle Dermapen is $300 - or prepay 3 treatments and get 1 free.
