What is IPL / Laser hair removal?
IPL / Laser hair removal can reduce hair from all parts of the body including the face, legs, arms, underarms, back, chest, nipples and bikini line. You can even have a Brazilian IPL if you want!
- IPL / Laser hair removal is a gradual process and 6 to 10 treatments are typically needed, depending on your hair and skin type. The improvements are subtle and the treatment won’t interrupt your normal activities.
- The number of treatments depends on skin and hair type, hair colour and thickness.
- The hair is removed by controlled flashes of light, which is absorbed by the hair filled follicles lying below the surface of the skin. The pigment in the hair shaft that absorbs the light, and the resulting heat damages each follicle and disables it. The dead hair shaft appears to grow and then fall out: this may take a week or more.
- IPL / Laser hair removal treatments should be at 4-week intervals to treat hairs at all stages of the growth cycle.

What technology do you use?
We use an intense pulsed light device called Harmony by Alma Lasers™. The founders of Alma Lasers have been at the forefront of innovative medial technologies since 1980. The Harmony uses FDA approved Advanced Fluorescent Technology (AFT). This patented technology transcends the older, painful treatments to deliver long lasting results. IPL treatments are safe, fast and gentle.
What do I need to do before an IPL / Laser hair removal treatment?
Avoid sunlight where possible – and if you do go in the sun, wear a good quality sunblock (if you don’t have any, you can purchase some from us). Treatments work best when there is a wide contrast between the colour of your hair and the colour of your skin, i.e. dark hair and pale skin.
Do I need to shave the area before coming in?
You can shave the treatment area before your appointment, or we can do this for you at your appointment.
What happens during the IPL / Laser hair removal treatment?

The area of hair is shaved or trimmed before your IPL treatment.
During the treatment you’ll be asked to wear a pair of dark glasses provided to protect your eyes from the bright light.
A cold gel is spread over the treatment area. The hand piece is then applied to the skin and pulses of light are flashed onto the treatment area.
Does IPL / Laser hair removal hurt?
Each pulse of light feels like a slight sting or pinch, similar to the snap of a rubber band. Most people don’t find this painful.
Are there any possible IPL / Laser hair removal side effects?
Side effects are rare with IPL / Laser hair removal. You may experience slight reddening or local swelling at the treatment site, but this typically goes away in a few hours. On rare occasions blistering or bruising may occur, but this normally resolves within a few days too. Also, the skin can become darker or lighter following treatment, but will generally return to normal within a few weeks. Limiting sun exposure before and after each treatment will minimise the risk of complications.
